JEWELLERY CARE

Vermilion Jewellery jewellery is fine in nature and therefore requires particular care.

CARE OF GOLD PIECES

Gold jewellery is relatively low maintenance, however it does require regular cleaning to maintain its lustre. Avoid direct contact with creams, lotions or perfumes as these substances can accelerate the tarnishing process and can congest any links or settings in your jewellery. Particularly acidic skin may also cause premature tarnishing. Examine your jewellery on a regular basis to ensure settings are in shape and clasps are secure. We recommend the use of a soft cloth and soapy water to remove oils and residues. We do not recommend jewellery cloths as our jewellery finish is a matt not a polished effect.

CARE OF SILVER PIECES

Silver jewellery requires more frequent and careful attention than other metals to address its natural tarnishing process. Store silver jewellery in a dry, cool place, in your original packaging or a specialty jewellery pouch. We recommend the use of a soft cloth and soapy water to remove oils and residues. We do not recommend jewellery cloths as our jewellery finish is a matt not a polished effect.

GEMSTONES

Precautions should be taken with all of your jewellery, however gemstones require particular care. Avoid impact against hard surfaces or contact with abrasive surfaces. Even a diamond can be damaged through enough force. Many gemstones such as tourmaline, amethyst, tanzanite, rubies and pearls, are very delicate. Avoid extreme temperatures, perfumes, cosmetics and household cleaning chemicals when wearing your jewellery.

EARRING BACKS, POSTS, HOOKS

All our earring posts and hooks are solid 18ct yellow or palladium (white) gold. This is for strength, hypoallergenic and durability that lower carat gold and silver backings cannot provide.

Earring butterfly backings need to be tightened and checked frequently to ensure that the tension between the post and the backing curled springs are enough to hold them in place.

Loosening the tension in the curled springs reduces the friction on the post but makes the catch less distinct, posing a very real risk of losing the earring. Tightening the curled springs, on the other hand, increases the friction on the post and gives the catch a better connection.

Our hooks are all work hardened and will withstand everyday use but we do not recommend sleeping in them.
